How many forints is 1 CHF?
()Interbank mid rate, a reference; any real exchange has a two-sided (buy/sell) price. With us, the conversion for a metals purchase runs at interbank wholesale rates: the two-sided spread is typically a few hundredths to tenths of a percent, not 1-2 percent.

A weakening forint and precious metals
If the forint weakens against the CHF, the purchasing power of local savings falls. Many therefore hold part of their portfolio in gold: its world price is set in foreign currency, so forint weakness usually pushes the gold price in forint higher. This is not a guarantee and not investment advice: gold also fluctuates.
Why the Swiss franc rate may matter to you
Travel and card payments
For card payments abroad the transfer (deviza) rate applies, for cash the valuta rate, they differ. The rate above is the interbank reference: since banks and bureaux quote around it with a two-sided price and their own margin, your final rate will be less favourable, so it is worth comparing actual offers.
Online purchases priced in CHF
If a shop or subscription is priced in CHF, the converter above shows the forint amount at the interbank mid rate. That is your benchmark: if the shop or your card issuer charges noticeably more, it is worth considering handling the conversion yourself.
Foreign-currency income and invoicing
If you invoice or receive payments in CHF, what matters is which rate your accounting policy specifies. In practice this is often the official MNB mid rate, but it may be your bank’s rate or another consistently applied market rate; for VAT you may separately elect the MNB or ECB rate. The key is consistency and documentation, discuss the specific choice with your accountant. You find the MNB mid rate above and in the daily table, downloadable.
FX-loan legacy: why the franc still matters here
Many Hungarian households took CHF-based mortgages in the 2000s, and their instalments jumped when the franc strengthened during the crisis. These loans were converted to forint by law in 2015, so the rate no longer drives them, but the lesson stands: with a foreign-currency liability the FX risk sits with the borrower.
Savings not only in forint
Many follow the Swiss franc rate because they keep part of their savings outside the forint, so forint weakness does not affect their entire wealth. Besides currency, precious metals are also used for this, priced in foreign currency on the world market. Not investment advice; all asset prices fluctuate.
What moves the Swiss franc rate?
Rate premium and central-bank direction
The global rate environment is shaped mainly by the major central banks, above all the Fed and the ECB, yet none of them is all-powerful: growth and inflation outlooks and capital flows move market yields too. The MNB decides within this environment, and the forint must offer a rate premium over the leading currencies to stay attractive. When that premium narrows (because the SNB raises rates or the MNB lowers them), capital moves toward the currencies seen as safer, typically the dollar and the euro, and the forint weakens.
The franc as a safe haven
The Swiss franc is a classic safe haven: in crises, wars or market panics investors move in, so the franc strengthens, especially against the forint. The Swiss National Bank (SNB) has repeatedly acted against an overly strong franc, which hurts Swiss export competitiveness.
Inflation and real yield
Investors look at the real yield: the interest rate minus inflation. If domestic inflation is high and the forint’s rate does not cover it, the real yield evaporates and capital seeks returns elsewhere. Loosening can come from two sides: monetary policy (the MNB cutting rates) and fiscal policy (the government widening the deficit and debt), the first narrows the rate premium, the second raises the risk premium. Both work against the forint.
Risk sentiment, geopolitics
In risk-off periods the forint, an emerging-market currency, tends to weaken versus the CHF. Rising energy and commodity prices also work against the forint: Hungary is a net energy importer, so costlier imports worsen the trade balance and push inflation up.

Currency on your metals account
When you trade on a metals account, the currency conversion runs at interbank wholesale rates: a two-sided price, but the buy/sell spread is typically a few hundredths to tenths of a percent, not the retail 1-2 percent. We charge no separate exchange fee (per the current fee schedule). This is an ancillary service to the metals trade, not a standalone currency exchange.
