Gold-silver ratio: how much silver for one gold?

75.37 grams of silver = 1 gram of gold

above the 1-year average

Computed from live world-market prices

▼ −8.85% over 1 year · the ratio fell: silver caught up with gold

The gold-silver ratio (gold-silver ratio) shows how many units of silver you get for one unit of gold, that is, which metal has become expensive relative to the other. The same figure answers the reverse question (silver-to-gold ratio): the pair is quoted this way in both directions. Unit-independent: gram/gram and ounce/ounce give the same number.

How is it usually read?

High or low ratio

A high ratio means silver is cheap relative to gold; a low one the opposite. Many use it to time a shift between the two metals, but the ratio can stay at a level for years, with no guaranteed reversion.

Silver often moves first

Silver’s market is much smaller and roughly half industrial, so it reacts more sharply and often earlier than gold, in several metal cycles it acted as a front-runner. This is not a rule or a forecast: the same trait can produce false signals.

Not investment advice, just how the metric is commonly read.

Rebalancing between gold and silver

Both metals are available on a precious-metals account: you sell one and buy the other while your holdings stay in an insured vault. A one-step gold↔silver swap is in development. Note: silver held with us sits in the Zurich free zone, so it trades VAT-free, VAT does arise on physical delivery.
